Woman in Wellness & Beauty Tech: Naina Mathur Mahajan, founder & CEO of Ojas Beauty

April 16, 2018

Naina grew up in India and has been exposed to Ayurveda from an early age. For her, Ayurveda was not a routine, but simple practices adopted and passed on by family, through generations for a healthful life. From DIY kitchen pantry face masks, to haldi doodh (golden lattes), coconut oil head massages or to tea with ginger to soothe a tummy ache, were things she naturally turned to.

Naina completed her undergraduate and graduate studies in the UK, where she obtained  PhD in Psychology and Behavioral Neuroscience. She also held a postdoctoral position at the NYU Langone Medical center where she spent time studying the genetic underpinnings of mental illness. It was at this time, where she was introduced and got involved with her local Buddhist center and thus began her love for mindfulness meditation.

Helping people live a healthy, holistic life has been Naina’s mission since the age of 18, when she decided pursue an academic career in mental illness. She wanted to broaden her impact on people's lives by combining the goodness of her neuroscience background and mindfulness techniques for emotional wellbeing and thus OJAS Beauty was born.

Naina’s goal is twofold, to bring a philosophy of wellness in skincare and to give back to her roots. As someone with two homes  (New Delhi and San Francisco), she hopes to bridge the gap between places and give something back to the people and traditions of her homeland, who form the basis of her beliefs and experiences—the  grandmothers, farmers, laborers, small batch producers and their families who strive to pass on this knowledge and pursue this mission relentlessly to give us high quality products, and enable us to pursue holistic wellness.

As an educator in the Ayurveda space, Naina has lead interactive workshops at Silicon Valley’s top tech companies, and teaches meditation as part of their diversity groups. She’s always on top of her game in the latest skincare and beauty trends, and her fun fact is that she can rival pretty much any Sephora employee or esthetician in their product knowledge.

She is excited to share this time tested Indian tradition with you to help create your daily rituals for beautiful skin.
